(6.56 min. 3.32 min. video in EN, FR & AR languages, 2024)

“Plastic Pollution & Single-Use Plastics” presents the WES (Water and Environment Support) project’s efforts to help Mediterranean countries confront the rising challenge of plastic waste and reduce the use of single-use plastics (SUPs). The video highlights how SUPs, intended to be used only once, have become a major source of environmental degradation, threatening marine ecosystems, public health, and key economic sectors such as fisheries and tourism. Through regional and national activities, the WES project provides technical assistance, policy support, and capacity building to governments, local authorities, civil society, and the private sector, helping them develop effective measures for phasing out SUPs, improving waste management, and promoting sustainable alternatives. The video emphasizes that everyone has a role to play, from policymakers designing ambitious regulations to consumers making simple daily choices to reduce plastic consumption. It calls for collective action to curb plastic pollution and move towards a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Mediterranean region.
